So it appears my guy wasn’t as good as he says he was. Please see pics

1) assume this tube (and the one on other side) should be connected?

2) oil coming out of tubes - rebuild job again to rectify?

As ever any advice really appreciated. This is my first early bay, im having terrible luck, I’ve had a few late bays and never really had any mechanical issues (suppose I’ve been lucky) im in Spain and mechanics just don’t seem keen to work on them either :-(

That looks like your heat exchanger to heater exhaust pod connection. You need these collars to clamp them together.

Also looks like the rubber insulation rings or sealing grommets are missing from the tinware where the air pipes go through it, above in your pic.

I'm posting links to JK only to illustrate what I think is missing all the part sellers will have these parts.

Not sure about your push rod tubes, whether the oil is dripping onto them or coming from the ends.

Thanks Mike, he’s coming out tomorrow but given that he’s left it like this I don’t hold out much hope 😞

Yeah, heater pipes just need connecting up , or maybe not in Spain? :D

Not sure what’s occurring re the push rod tubes. At worst they can be replaced with adjustable ones with the heads coming off again.

Hey Buddy, where abouts are you in Spain? There’s plenty of good vw specialists. Send me a PM.

As others have said, you’re missing the clamp between the heat exchanger and exhaust.

If the pushrod tubes are leaking, you’ll have to pull the heads to reseat/reseal them. But youre going to have to do that anyway because it looks like your man missed the air deflector tins off the bottom of the cylinders aswell🤦🏼‍♂️

Hi! Im
East of Malaga, between malaga and Nerja. Any suggestions would be most welcomed!

Re heat deflector…. Think I have it, thought it was just a screw on job?! Will upload a pic as soon as I get home

Thanks everyone

You can’t fit them if the push rods are in place. Best chance is to replace current set up with adjustable push rod tubes. Or get some it trusted to rebuild. You must have them in place.

Can anyone send a pic of the deflector so I can ask this cowboy if he has them?

Is it absolutely essential that they are in place? Thanks
