Hi

We were hoping to canvas some opinions/advice on what type of material is best to cover the rear seat RR Bed.

We are having all the door cards covered in vinyl and it would be nice if the rear seats recovered in the same material, which would seem to be the most commonly used option.

My question is, If we use vinyl/leather as a covering for the rear seat area, what is it like to sleep on as against using a more breathable material.

I may be wrong but would the vinyl not make for an uncomfortable sweaty sleep

I'd say sweaty. Some people use mattress 'toppers',another thing to load up. I went for material, very comfortable. Could you go for a vinyl/material combo, on the back then turn them over? Depends on your seat set up and whether you can make the base foams universal. You'd need to consider the boot piece in this regard.

when we bought the bus 8 years ago we kept the OG front seat and cards but covered the new foam for the RR bed in a good quality denim, apart from fading a bit still intact but we are now redoing in new denim for the bed area with a light blue piping, only because the foam after 8 years is no longer foamy, and we are going to recover the front seats and door cards in vinyl.

we went away from vinyl on the bed due to cold in winter and sweaty in the summer, for the back foam over hte engine bay just the same as the bed denim, but for when we are touring and have deckchairs and stuff on the cushion the wife made single thickness tent nylon cover that is water proof and keeps the cushion clean but folds up dead small and sits under the cushion when not used.

I went for vinyl ,. I agree carrying a 'topper ' could be a hassle but at least you can wash a topper if the vino gets spilt ;)

I always think it wise to look at coach built campers, 90% of them use a breathable washable cover rather than the vinyl.

I went for a fabric used by a modern coachbuilder in mine as it's a very durable fabric as well as being nice to sleep on.

Thanks to you all for your comments, we suspected that the vinyl option would be less comfortable for sleeping so we will more than likely opt for a fabric finish with the door cards covered in vinyl.

"Stanley" will hopefully be back from having a new paint finish :D shortly and thereafter we can plan the choice of interior so that we are ready to head off on our adventures in the spring.

cheers

Andy
