OK. so a petrol smell around the filler (with shiny new cap) probably means a leaking filler neck....

Has anyone managed to change this without taking the engine out? It is possible to undo the firewall and jiggle it out enough to get to the filler neck?

Cheers,
Nick

I have this problem on mine, but took the engine out for other reasons. Not replaced the hose yet, but took the bulkhead panel out. Dont think you would remove with the engine in place. But its fairly simple to get the engine out, took 1 hr.

Pretty much all the time. It does seem to come and go a bit, but not in relation to how full the tank is.

unless you have a non-fire walled engine bay (think some vans come without the fire wall fitted) then it really is an engine out job. Oce its out and the fire wall is removed then its about a 2 min job.
Loosen off the jubilee clip / hose clip on the tank end and then remove the 3 M6 (?) bolts holding the filler neck in place and manouvere the pipe and neck out. refitting is reversal of removing (yeah i know it never is but 1 day it might be the case   )

Thanks folks - saved for another day then (behind the growing list of jobs)

Nick
