Does anyone know what sort of radio/stereo I can put into my 71 bay without cutting the hole about.

Ideally I would like an old retro classic push button and dial LW/MW style one but with modern capabilities....i.e. FM radio...ipod connection etc.... Does anyone make such a radio???? If not anything modern that might fit in the original hole!!! :?:

the old blaupunkt radios were optional extras at the time
think the mid/top of th erange had FM but only mono
and they have a 5 din input socket, so you can plug in your ipod with th eright connector
Rich Oakley sells them on here, fleabay etc
I've got one in my van, won't break the sound barrier but works a treat and looks spot on

Hi!

How about one of the old vw optional ones as mentioned, I have one installed though it was only about 30 quid, sold as untested, but it looks cool. Never even tried to see if it works, as i have a sony cd tuner hidden in the glovebox, with a Harman Kardon DrivePlay 1 ipod controller and screen just below the original old vw radio - along with a nos 8 track underneath. I got the HK ipod control and screen kit from ebay for about 25 quid.

Not yet fitted the 8 track, need to make brackets up....but you get the idea.

Cip 1 makes a new radio that fits in the stock location.
It has higher output then the old stereos and has USB and mp3 player plug ins.
It is a little pricey though.

Not retro but I've just fitted one of these with only a small amount of filing required.

My new old Volkswagen radio

With an adaptor to connect my Ipod Nano!

I bought the radio from http://www.oldtimerautoradio.nl/. This guy also ships to the UK. ;)

i have the same radio, you can also take this type of radio and have DAB (@£200) and FM fitted with ipod connections and keep the ogee dials and look.

the cip one radio looks good but not available to the UK

Australia isn't on their banned list (yet!) If anyone is desperate and red hot keen, you can get it shipped out to me, and I will forward it on to you. It's a bit of a round trip, but Captain Cook did it a couple of times before he got into strife.
A bit of trust involved there as well, but I'm good for it.

Thanks Guys :D

Surfbus that is exactly the sort of thing I'm after, does it fit in the original stock radio hole?

Johnny did you get yours from the same company as Surfbus or is there a supplier in the UK?

Hi!

Sorted - here you go, UK supplier. Priced at 199.99 plus 20 quid for faceplate and knobs to fit bus.

nice discovery :msn4:

Sorry but that marriage of old and new just dont do it for me .....

either new or old with the ipod hook up....

buy a non working radio and give this guy a call...

Adrian 01761413933,

he can fit a DAB setup but keep the original sliders and facia. It's not cheap but a DAB in an original radio is a pretty neat trick.

It doesn't take much cutting, does it? I had a quick look and estimated a couple of mm,
I'll give it a go when I have time - don't like reaching across to my head unit and I'm an habitual track-skipper.

I'm liking this option, anyone know if it is possible to wire in outputs to connect a decent amp to boost the sound quality?
