I need some confusion cleared up; I was ordering rear brake cylinders for my April '71 bus, asked for early cylinders
and was asked if I had discs and servo up front - yes. I was then told I need late cylinders, so I went with that.

They arrived today and the boxes clearly say from August '71 on (72 model, yes?)

Got back on to the supplier to explain and he said pre-July '71 buses should have drums all round!??

I haven't even removed the drums yet so can somebody please enlighten me? :?

From Just Kampers -

Rear Wheel Cylinder Type 2 August 1955 to July 1971
For models with drum brakes front & rear

Which is it drums all round or to July 71? - mine is April 71 and has servo/discs. :?

I'm guessing here, but it sounds like your bus might have been converted to late brakes. What is the stud pattern on your wheels? 5x205 or 5x112?

Why? It was built in April '71 which means 5x112 and discs.

My problem is there are two to choose from - listed as '55 to July '71 with drums all round, or August '71 on..
so where does mine fit in?

Well if it is 5x112 on the rear I'd order the later parts.

You have discs up front and drums rear? order later parts, my 71 was built pre-july but registered aug 71, i used later parts to refurb the rear drums (after july 71)

Your bascially the same as a late but with different calipers on the front, slightly thicker pads i believe, 19mm compared to 15mm.

Will the later cylinders fit OK? I'm not replacing shoes.

i used these on my 71 with no problems, from heritage.

33 Wheel cylinder, rear 8/71-91

REPRO. rear wheel cylinder 8/71>

i can see how its confusing, there are three of four options, the german cylinders are considerably more cash.

The Bentley isnt very clear, there were many cylinders in use however it does highlight that on 68 to 71 models had a circlip fitted to the piston under the dustcap and not on the 72 and later.... but the rear brake is generally 68 to 70 and 71 onwards....

so cylinders early.... brake refurb lates....

thats what ive found :) , my rear running gear is later, calipers up front 1 year only (dif. pad thickness, i swapped them out for later discs calipers because i didnt think the pads were easy to find but you can get them relatively easy :( ) and the outside is all earlybay, a winner all round when you have a 71 :D .

Before I whip a drum off it looks like I have the wrong ones -

It might be easier to just order late shoes to match, which ones did you use? -
there seems to be four types of shoe to choose from

i went for later shoes, cylinders, and refurb kit. scrapped what was already rusted.
