Hi,

Does anyone know of a UK source for semi-metallic rear brake shoes like this:

http://vwparts.aircooled.net/Rear-Brake-Shoes-1971-Type-2-211-609-537J-p/ss-374.htm?CartID=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

They're made by Kymco I think...

Yeah they might last longer, might stop you a bit better, but your drums might not last so long.
In a former life I worked in the testing laboratory for Don-Mintex, testing friction materials on a Dyno, at this time we were formulating new non-asbestos materials with a higher metallic content as all now have, these materials tend to wear the contact point ie; Discs, Drums, Flywheel, ect much more, ever wondered why your always changing your disc's as much as your pad's.
I'm sure the liner material if not the shoes would not be just exclusive to the U.S, I bet there's plenty of companies who could re-line your exsisting shoe's with a similar material. We were light years ahead of the U.S in the 1980's in this technology.
Pity I lost my contacts, left on bad terms :evil: got a good redundancy package though. :lol:

Thanks for the response - I think that I'd be willing to trade a little drum life for better stopping power. I've got a servo and front discs which look to be working ok but I'm going to have to go through the whole system as it doesn't stop as well as I'd expect it to. I had one drum off before for a quick look and all seemed fine but I think that its time for a closer inspection, front and back.
