Rear wheel bearings and shaft issue sizes

I have converted the rear of my 68 to latebay setup

and have hit an issue with bearing sizes and my shafts

Should the shaft slide through the bearings in the hub carrier or are they a press fit

after a quick measure the bearing faces for the inner and outer bearings is 35mm but in measuring the bearings they are more like 34.8mm so are very tight

is it just crap bearings or should they be a press fit

I know this is the early bay forum but many of us have late bay setups

any help would be great, I don't want to clearance the shafts only to find the bearings are the wrong item

anyone else have these issues?

Are you using late outer bearings and early inner bearings?

I'm not sure how helpful this is, but on a press fit like this you should have a maximum interference of 0.037mm, and a minimum of 0.004mm. There are many types of press fit, but this is probably the tightest you're going to get without using an actual press (H7,P6 tolerances= hole -0.021mm/-0.037mm, shaft 0/-0.025mm). You have 0.49mm- something's definitely not right. Do not try to force the two together, it will not go well.

I had to get the shafts clearanced and pressed in.

It has been a complete nightmare and wished I had never used all the setup

Wouldn't do it again!!!!
