I fancy rebuilding a carb and painting it up a bit bling, anyone done it or know of any good sites for help and advice?

it will only be a solex 30pict/2 for my 1600 single port.

oh I fancy doing a fuel pump too.

I've just rebuilt the 30PICT-1 on my wifes '67 bug (twice  ).

It's vital to keep everything clean and dust free, use the correct solvents and an airline to blow out channels and jets. Get the best rebuild kit you can afford - I got mine from GSF and the quality was brilliant.
Don't forget to check (and replace if necessary) the idle cut-off valve - I forgot to do this as I removed it early on as it looked OK, it took me much time to realise it was stopping the engine ticking over once rebuilt!
Also, I had a small fuel leak at the throttle spindle prior to rebuild, I ordered a brass bush kit from eBay but as my carb was an early model they didn't fit inside the carb (luckily my mate machined the carb to fit them!). Your later carb should have plastic bushes inside so it should just be a case of pulling the old ones out for a direct replacement (bushes were £10-£12 as I recall).
You could polish the carb (time consuming, messy, difficult to keep looking good) but I saw feature a while back about some black powdercoated carbs and they looked awesome!!

If you need any help drop me a PM...

;)
