Does anyone else think that the papers are talking up the fact that our country is back on the rise??

Listening to Jeremy Vine today arguing with some bankers!! about who should own the banks etc.....peed me off

I am a self employed electrician and been flat out for the last seven years with two guys working for me. Things have slowed up over the last six months and now I am looking at agency work and tapping up contacts to drum up something to do....Customers have stopped calling and the ones that do want a job done for nothing....

The recession seems to have hit the south west of England late for me....

Sorry!! rant over now..... :p :p

I work for an ISP and Services company - we're won't really know how bad it is until the end of this month and following on from that - a lot of our customers are Health & Government......they had budgets to spend last year but it's how they are going to spend in the next year which will affect a lot of companies,

Will only really start to know once all the projects start tailing off as councils e.t.c. look to cut back their IT spending :(

Technically we might be out of recession at the top end of the chain - it's when it filters back down that chain and how long for - I'm hoping 6-12 months before things pick up properly

self employed spark from manchester, its hard to find work, really hard and when you do you get nailed for price.

im NIC registered as well and find that non registered firms are getting the work because they are cheaper.

agree, self employed landscaper/chippy. been manic until about a month ago :?

been asked to do jobs that are so cheap I'm better off staying at home and working on the bus!
seriously.

we sell into the NHS, GP surgeries. Massive end of year spends last year (march 09), part of a 3 year project, this year zero spend

im down big time over last years business, im now job hunting in a different sales area, i cant afford to not

That's 'cos they've got no jobs to go to....

Who, I think you are right about the south West being hit late, i am too in the building game (as the name suggests :D ) and have had to cut my prices to stay competitive.
I know quite a few people that have left the trade and some are actually better off on benefits .
The benefit system has a lot to answer for, but thats another rant for another day  .
I dont want to get all depressed but i do feel that the south West certainly will still be in it till next spring.

Rant over. :D :D :D :D :D

 to be honest its new trade, not existing members, membership is higher than it ever has been.

i'm in the building trade and this last 12months as been the worst ever and i've been in trade for 24 years bet i've only done 6 weeks work since xmas, think the press is trying to big up browns effort to get us out of it?maybe theres any election soon :msn4:

I totally agree I've been running a gas / plumbing company for over 6 years with two teams of men as from next week it's just me !!!! Funny thing is I thought at least I'll have more time for the gym as I've not been for 9 months !!!! (re 61 stu post)

one for the builders, i work for a specialist building care homes/villages and the like, 08/09 70m turnover 09/10 46m turnover. and this is supposed to be a safe sector as we are all getting old and need someone to wipe our bottoms. the banks have stopped clients (charities and not for profit organisations) building, which is mad as land is cheap at the moment and building cost has dropped 15% in the last 12 months alone.

Totally agree with why thats happened dood. I have mates who are tattooists and they have never been busier one being now fully booked for 2 years! thats 6 days a week 2 sessions a day!

I run a large Orthodontic Supplies company and we are flat out! people want their teeth straightened basically, more than ever.

Its great for industries like ours who rely on people wanting to spend money on themselves i.e. not material things such as cars etc, but nice teeth, tattoos and to get their body into shape.

Fingers crossed it continues
