to get to the point  i want my bus back on the road ,i have found some rust that i wasnt expecting ect witch i have nearly finished cutting and repairing but all this is being done outside on the drive ,i pulled the bus apart two years ago in snow and it just a bare shell ,all the parts have bean cleaned painted ect and i have been coll parts but the weather has finally got to me along with a **** work rosta SO any ideas on the cost of painting the bus and putting it back together ,i would get it to you and bring all the parts i have .i just want it back on the road the only interior work to would be to fit the headliner the rest would be done by myself.

would be gratefull for some prices :)

Have you got any photos and a list of what needs doing? Im having my bay restored at the moment

Is a tough question to answer - paint jobs are mostly prep and the well thought of paintshops will only do their own prep so they can guarantee the finish.

Blow over paint job - £700 or so
Good Paint job including prep from £3000 - £6000
Show winning paint including prep from £6000 - LOTS

As for the rebuild it would depend on condition of parts, do they require repairs, fitment, when installed do they function, state of wiring the list goes on.

You should contact Midland Paintwerks http://www.midlandpaintwerks.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - they have a fantastic rep and are active on the site.

If I ever decide to get mine repainted I would use them as their work is outstanding.

Sounds like a realistic price mate - you should give Midland a ring!

You might even have a few quid left over for shows!

Another vote for midland paintwerks from me. They did our bus and did a great job. Very professional and good communications and more importantly trust worthy, I live a couple of hours drive so couldn't visit too often. If they told me something needed doing or replacing then I knew that was the case.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about them or I'll try and keep an eye on this thread

general experience of painting a bus is 300-400 hours of labour + materials.Thats just the paint. Then you want new seals and who knows whats under all that filler and crap may need welding. The reality of painting a bus properly is 300-400 hours or £7500-10 000 and that for a proper job.Would it win best in show for paint? NO but it would be properly sorted with no bubbling after 6 months.Show paint is 600 hours plus
just my opinion based on 7 years experience

My van was painted by Paul Langstaff in Deal who had his own vw's that he used to hire out,he has now sold/selling these and concentrating on the resto work. His work is to a very high standard and reasonably priced,he is a nice guy and has a website you could take a look at,I see you are in kent so may not be too far for you?

There is no doubting midlands credentials, they do a great job , our bus was painted at Channels in Ashford, I am very happy with my paint job and the Finnish even after two years.

Price wasn't too bad either.

dont want to sound rude ,how much did they charge ,ashford is not to far away.

That's ok 3900, inside and out plus the engine bay.

Not a rude question al at fella, pop down and speak to Jimmy in the paint shop. If you want to look at the finnish pm and we can sort something out.

Hi Guys its not very often we reply to threads involving us, as we prefer the people we have worked for to do that for us “ happy customers”. Some of the prices above are not our prices , we are a small family team father and son . Each vehicle is individual and so are the customers , some buses need more prep , some customers want more work carried out than others , we aim to achieve the highest standards that the customers budget allows . All work whether it’s a small scratch or a full body restoration is carried out using the same systems and bi components paints/primers/surfacers/topcoats that work together as in my experience previously working in a Porsche approved body shop. People seem to think we only do bare metal body restoration , have a 2year waiting list and are as expensive as the prices quoted above WE ARE NOT.
Anyone at volksworld wanting a no pressure estimate on the Sunday please pm us.
Stuart/Drew
Some pics of how ripple free we can get them, whilst working together with the customer.

Phoned Stuart regarding tinware extensions and having had a good chat with to him i wouldn't hesitate about having a van done by them if i was in the market for some paintwork done.
