ok, need to get some foam for the bed.

do i need the foam to be cut to the exact size of the boards? or a diffferent size? i imagine the need to be specific sizes to make sure that the bed opens and closes properly.

and ....... how have people fixed the cushions to the bed boards? i'm thinking of either velcro or studs/poppers. any pics anyone can show me?

Cut mine to just a fraction more than the board size. Used 2 strips of velcro to hold them down. Sewed to the underside of the cover and stapled to the board. Nice and easy.

Cut our foam the same size as the boards and used spray adhesive to hold them in place. Then stapled the vinyl to the board.

i'm going for fabric covers, i guess that may not work for me.

now trying to decide whther to get the cushion over the engine cut into roughly the same width of the bed or to get it the full width of the van and shaped towards the back and round the fuel filler neck.

If it's any help, I went with foam the same size as the seat and back-rest and the rear part, over the engine bay, square in line with the narrowest part of the rear section, just inside the tailgate. This seems to be plenty wide enough for both our feet (we go head in the middle) and leaves a couple of handy little spaces to stand fuel cans, bottles of oil, spare wheel etc up so they don't rattle around too much

thanks jimbly. it is helpful. i've measured for both. it would be easier to get your version made.

as for sleeping position, in my mind i had assumed we were going to have our heads at the back of the bus. my g/f had assumed the opposite way round.

We found head in the middle was a bit less claustrophobic.

Also, if you go for a square cushion at the back, it's a lot easier to get it covered/trimmed. We bought a few duvet covers from Matalan and got a friend to knock covers up for the R&R foam and the buddy seats for a fairly sizable drink but it worked out nicely...

Have fun...
