Has anyone ever raised the rear end by adjusting the torsion bars,I read on Ratwell.com that it is the method is mentioned in the Bentley manual,if so was it fairly easy and successful.
I know that I could lower the front to level it up,but I like to ride high.

That's what they were designed for - making small adjustments to raise (or lower) the height.

Like this (pretty much the same)

Except you want a combination of inner and outer, in the other rotation.

Oh, and there only one spring plate so separating the hub assembly is a little easier, but be careful with your brake lines.

What condition are the rubber donuts behind the springplate covers?,as sometimes if they are badly they can cause a bus to stand lopsided or look a bit low on backend.

How is the steering with that rake? Mine was a little jittery, but when I lowered it another spline, removed the bump-stops and notched the plates it was spot on.

Oh, and I don't think fitting adjusters will improve the ride at the front.

The resultant rake was an unfortunate, and unintended, side effect of resetting the rear suspension.

Steering aint too bad. Its got a Red 9 Design front doo-e-dads on which are set as high as they go. Not a fan of lowered vans so will be replacing it when I can afford it (dont really trust it either, but that, as they say, is a whole can of worms.. :!: ..) so will be taking the rake out by highering the front and not, as you did, lowering the back.

It was, however, a revalation to get some rear suspension as previously it was running on the stops, crap ride to say the least. It now rides much smoother now I have suspension travel. :D

My camber is now about right as previously it looked silly as the rear wheels were very splayed out, not good for either tyers or bearings.

Ah, you just need to re-fit leaves and dampers at the front and you're good to go.

I have driven mine with the same bump-stop and spring plate issued yours had, I couldn't
do it for more than a few miles - it was awful.

I had a 78 passenger bus in the shop, the rear torsions had actually twisted themselves between adjustment points. I put a set in from a junker bus, worked like a charm using the Bentley repair manual instructions. Bus is back to stock, rides perfect! It should have nothing to do with the front if never messed with...

To get the height spot on for both sides I always disconnect all drums, axles etc and support them so the springplates are unladen.

Replace the springplate covers then measure from the top corner at the wheel end of the springplate to the corner of the lower bumpstop and make sure the lengths on both sides are the same using a combination of inner and out splines.

It's time-consuming but guarantees you don't drop the bus off the jack only to find it's still slightly higher/lower on one side.

let me know when, will have beers and coffees on tap ;)

Hang on, thought you had adjustable springplates?

i do, they are at their lowest at the mo, and theres a 1 inch height difference

i dont want to raise 1 side an inch on the adjusters

need to sort the splines out so both sides are even, and can then be adjusted on the adjustable spring plates
