Have become rather fed up with the JK Thermo mats and thought I'd look for curtain track, hoping to find it a bit cheaper than the usual sources. Google 'campervan curtain tracks' and lo and behold a listing for 'Tracks-direct-The Bay Window specialist'.
Some friends of mine used to live in a lovely 1940's house, complete with period....erm.... 'baywindows'.....

what was wrong with the thermo mats?

The mats barely cover the windows, the suckers on the cab doors line up perfectly with the quarterlight 'upright' hence do not stick meaning the mat has to move off the window area leaving a big gap, and roughly a third of the suckers don't 'suck'! Two that have stuck have now pulled through the material when trying to release them. It's a pain packing and unpacking each day and when in the bag it takes up as much space as a huge sleeping bag. Filling the gaps and accounting for non sucking suckers means using a full roll of gaffer tape per weekend, and 20 mins each to put up and take down.
Other than that, they are great! They do block the light well (where they fit) and keep it cool in the day, just wish they were easier to use. The curtains in my house are very efficient. :D

Heres what you want, I just bought 2 x 3m lengths & 2 x 2m lengths for my van, bends dead easy without cracking.
Click on where to buy & fill in your details.

i think i would go for one of those wrap around vinyls for the front and curtains for the rest. I have two jalousie windows and both rears are covered but the furniture. Youve put me off the thermo mats... seems i have a brand new set forsale :p ..... dont know why i bought it :| but my plans have changed along the way i suppose.

I was going to get these as well, but having read your thread, thinks I might not now ;)

I use one of these on teh front screen and then curtains and thermo mats for the windows

Never had any problems with the fitment of the mats.

the silent gliss track is an absolute MOTHER F"&(£& to bend around the front cab and who wants curtains in the front anyhoo...speaking from lots of experience.Still that said all our hire busses have curtains and i`ve only ever dreamed of thermo mats as a hassle free alternative...so :?:

4 poppers is all you need for the front curtain and some elastic in the curtain itself. Check my thread out and you will see how easy it is ;)

My thermo mats fit fine. Don't have any problem with the suckers, just used them this weekend at Camperjam, they stayed up and kept the van quite cool during the day.

I just went to order a wrap around screen/cab door cover from Bluebird but unfortunately they are closed and I would like one before they re-open on the 26th.
Anyone know of another supplier or have one for sale please?

Yep Pete
Try Bromsgrove Auto trimmers, they will also give a little bit of discount or free postage if you mention Earlybay.com and quick turnround if you ask them

Should have put this in

Thank you very much for that David. Am sure their product is excellent quality, but have also heard only good reports of the Bluebird offering and that is £35 opposed to £55 at Bromsgrove. The urgency on my part is purely down to leaving for Spa a week on Thursday and the thought of those 'rather frustrating' thermo mats for four nights! Fortunately Ooro has offered the loan of his screen cover, (top fella!) so panic over while I scan the market and choose a supplier. Just hope if I go for the Bluebird option it lives up to the hype. Had one of their R&R beds and ended up sending it back for a refund.....
Thanks to all for their responses. Good old EB.com ;)

hi pete, the bluebird ones are top notch mate !! if you were thinking of going down the curtain route i have a pretty much full set of silent gliss tracks (only the rear piece missing) from a rhd bus and dont see why the cant be used upside down, hope this is any help.
Adam

Thanks Adam, think it will be a Bluebird one unless a better suggestion comes along. Regarding the curtain track, for too long winded a reason, I have discounted this type now. Will be using wires or hooks I think, but thanks for the offer.
Cheers bud, 8)

Oh, that avatar.....better than the telly for a night in. :D
