I have all door handles that use the same key and would like to keep it this way.
The question is, what is the best way to treat damaged chrome....

I am in two minds whether to sand and paint the handles.
I know it won't bode well with the purists, but some of them are too pitted or damaged to get re-chromed, but may benefit from painting etc. ;)

What is the best way to sand/treat them first before painting. :?:

well personally if you really set on painting, sand them back any large pits fill in with metal braze, weld or even solder will work on small areas, sand again and bang em into the powder coaters that way you'll get a good hardwearing finnish, or get a set of used handles in good nick at a swap meet and swap em over

Good condition handles seem quite common at swapmeets etc,get some good uns then swap the lock barrels over,

The barrels come out quite easily, just go slow and take care.strip the new ones first before you even touch yours on the van,so you see how they dismantle,(and if you drop bits it doesnt matter as your using the bits from the handles still on your van) if it goes wrong stripping them and you dont have confidence sure someone near you will help out.

You will be well chuffed when youve done it. 8) shiny, shiny.
