Should it be reported

Before you do anything double check the tax disk as they do not give year of manufacture, does it actualy say 'historic' and £nil if so then hes claiming it as a pre 73. The fact that it has a different plate could be because up until the early eighties (i think ) an imported vehicle would have been given a number plate corresponding with the year of registration, today if you choose to give up one of these plates and providing you have proof of the year of manufacture DVLA will then issue you with an age related plate, the owner may have discovered he had a very early high light import and reregistered it with an age related plate and claimed historic status. If the tax disc does not say historic then he could have bought a plate with some significance ie his initials or something. As you both own bays you have an excuse to get in conversation with him as to what year it is and how come its a later model etc , you will soon find out if his genuine or bluffing and if his bluffing put him in a headlock, bash him against the side of his van and tell him its just not cricket.

I will do that, I couldn't hurt the van like that its not her fault, I will bash it against a ford instead :D

I say report him - none of us would want to end up buying a van with dubious history/identity. There's no excuse for this fraud - it invalidates his insurance for a start (how would you feel if it was your pride and joy he hit?), and for what? Saving some £££'s on his tax?
It's also just one step away from ringing in the true 'criminal' sense of the word - none of us would approve if it was a stolen bus and he'd changed the identity to make it difficult to track... is it really that different?

Call the cops, and sleep soundly in the knowledge that if you're wrong there's no harm done...

;)

It does sound like hes playing that old landrover trick

If...... thats the case then its a ringer and needs reporting, and you have to think what hes done with the early bay whos identity hes robbed....

For a few quid a year he jepodises all other road users, if hes that effing tight then what else is he skimping on MOT?...

Scum straight forward scum.

But you do need to be sure.... anyway if you shop him it may well check out in the end.....

Hi all,my daily driver is a 1971 bay, that was involved in a serious accident in 1982,an import company found a nos 77 lhd shell which had nose panel damage, they repaired it,changed it to rhd and put all the running gear on fron the 71,when they tried to re-register it as a new vehicle they were told as a certain % of the vehicle was 71 they changed the chassis no on the v5,i have paper work from previous owner +dvla to confirm this,it has the sliding door on the wrong side ,no petrol flap ect but i can live with that,i claim tax exemption, :? anyone thinks thats wrong?

If it's been checked by the DVLA and everything is cool and legal then there's nothing wrong - my concern is that through some dodgy goings-on this guy might have invalid insurance etc - not the same thing at all!

;)

i know what you mean,i get people all the time at shows and clubs making remarks, ringer ect,i keep photo copies in the glove box just to show people,my insurance company are aware and quite happy. :)

No its a common con in the landy world in fact big business selling rolling chassis with log books when all concerned know fine well the rolling chassis wont roll out the drive let alone down the motorway....
and again its a way of getting out of paying tax etc........its easier to change the chassis number on an early landy aswell...

First thing I would do get the registration number,go onto ebay site if you have an account,go to sell a car.Put in the registration number, that will bring up all the details like colour, date of registration, number of owners, etc. Then cmopare that to what your mate knows about the van.

if he has swoped the chassis plates then im guessing your avarage copper wouldent have a clue what the diferences are between early and late so would ok it.i think by reporting the chap you are most probably wasting your time, regardless of weather its wrong or not.if he has changed the plates simply to save pennies on tax and has had it moted since changing them i dont really think its a prob untill some one buys the van thinking its an early,

You can reshell a car/bus as long as the shell has not been reg all you have to do is inform dvla and they will change it on the v5.
I had a rusted out mini  1970 one so i brought a new shell kept the no plate and told dvlc. :)
