Hi,

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the early and late bay rear side windows? Well, it's the rubbers in particular, I bought a seal for an early bay (OE quality) but it said on the bag 71-79 (my bus is a 70) and it simply doesn't seem to want to fit!

Any thoughts?

I don't think they are different.

I had a job fitting mine, took four of us to man handle the side window with the opening quarter light into it's place.

The plain side wasn't that much easier.

Lube is the secret,,,,,,

Are you having problems with the glass fitting the seal or the whole lot fitting in the aperture!?

the whole lot fitting in the aperature really, just seems too big. It's the plain side, I've just noticed on Machine 7 website they have a new,
'rubber shop' . It seems pretty cool, but they seem to stock both the early and late bay side window seals as different part numbers.

I got the seal from Status so I thought it would be fine, obv not!

I bought mine from C&C and had huuuuge trouble trying to fit mine, sent them back twice  only to find out they had a problem with their supplier. They then sent me VEWIB ones, and went in a treat with only 2 of us. (I used a little waxoyl between the seal and window apature which worked wonders.)

Sorry it doesnt answer your question but thinking about it from a different angel ;)

There is a difference, early rubbers have a narrower profile.

There is a difference in the rubbers, but the apperture and glass size doesn't change between early and late so it should still fit.

How are you trying to fit it? it should take 2 or 3 people less than 5 minutes to fit a side window :D it takes longer to get the rubber on the window in the first place

:)

i struggled with mine, bought mine from JK the rubber was tough with no give ,sent them back bought two from schofields better but still would'nt go in ,in the end got a fitter to do it for £20 a window ,but he still had to skim some rubber off with a razor .

Did you drop the rubbers in a sink (or bath) of hot water to make them softer and therefore easier to handle/ pliable? Also Has anyone tried silicone spray to get the rubbers (and window) in the hole? Silicon spray makes working with rubber on metal really easy, but wondered if it goes in easy does it come out easy also (especially when you don't want it to)?

Silicon spray is OK as long you never need paintwork, its a sprayshop's worst nightmare.

Many soaps have a high salt content & are not great either, Johnson's baby bath has been recommended ;)

With the added bonus you will come out smelling all cute

Well maybe not.....................
