I will be installing a leisure battery set up. Plan to wire up to the leisure fuse box a propex, interior light for camping, bus stereo, 12v socket and a small inverter for occasional low power use.

With the propex and stereo i want to be able to run them whilst driving, obviously, as well as when parked up with the other bits. Does this work this way or do i need to consider wiring these two bits in a different way?

I am following Faux's stickied design above.

Cheers

Al

i've got my fuse box from leisure battery under the bed, Also a small connector that I switch over. When im driving the stereo runs of the alternator, then switch it over when i stop and it runs of the leisure.

I was finding that my alternator wasn't creating enough power to charge the normal battery after starting up. So once the leisure battery died that was it no music

I always put the LB fusebox right next to the original under the dash. Just run a thick wire from the LB to the box. Why here and not under the bed?

1 All you need to do is unplug all the terminals (lights, water pump, sounds, etc) you are taking off the main box and plug straight into the new box - no wire extensions etc needed - easy!
2 It's much safer and accessible - who wants a fuse box buried under loads of camping stuff?

Can't understand why aux fuse boxes are put under beds :?

A Zig unit is a good way of controlling things, not cheap but I think worth it.

The Zig is connected to the LB and van battery, it charges the LB without a split charge, when plugged into mains it charges the the LB. It runs the 12v appliances and links the 240v and 12v systems.

From the Zig I run:
Propex
2 x 12v sockets (1 of these runs to the buddy set and the other is in the RnR)
240v system (RCD needed)
12v Light
12v to 240v inverter

I put mine under there as the amp's there so just a bit easier. Works well for me.

Thanks for early replies guys. I am fitting the LB fuse box in the engine bay, up high out of the way as, apart from stereo, all the aux cabling will be coming from around the rear area so makes sense to me to mount it at the back.

Matt1984, i have a new alternator conversion so i would have hoped the charging when driving should be more than that required to keep charging the LB whilst running a stereo (basic kenwood unit, no pre-amp or anything) and the need for the propex (not all the time), or am i wrong?

So in principle, what i have suggested is right? But i may need to basically see how it goes?

Thanks Faux, looked at zig unit but i am after a simpler system basically, i don't really want/need permanent 240v either, if i do will probably buy an extension lead. Last year didn't camp anywhere where they had 240v hook up where i wanted to be.

Other thoughts much appreciated.

Thanks Al

My alternator is newish aswell. I think with the amp and speakers it just drains the power. Plus i've got a fridge that runs straight of the alternator aswell. But not all the time just when I want to use it. I ran the wire up through the spare wheel wel and down to under the bed.

Well i say I, it was a friend of mine who did all the wiring as im pants when it comes to anything electrical.
