Hi guys,

Hopefully this will be an easy 1 to solve :) After changing up from 2nd to 3rd or from 3rd to 4th, the engine just revs and there is no drive. If i lift off the gas a little and slow down or change down this solves the problem. There is no burning smell. You Just got to build the revs up in each gear really slow to get anywhere! Is this the clutch slipping or could it be something easier to solve?

any help greatly appreciated

Maggy

...if the bite point is nr top of pedal travel.

Otherwise do you leave a puddle of oil below the engine/gearbox join? If yes clutch contaminated with oil from leaking flywheel oil seal.

cheers for replies so far guys. the bite point is about half way up the pedal travel so don't think it could be that but will try it anyways, and no there is no oil leak between engine and gearbox . ?

much appreciated

Perhaps it's simply worn out then. I think we all get so used to clutch problems being something other than the clutch plate itself it sometimes gets overlooked.

Does the engine leak oil around the bell housing? If so the rear main is leaking and covering the clutch plate in oil causing it to slip.

Sounds like you need a new centre plate because the linings are worn out. Normally one would also replace the cover plate and release bearing, unless they are known to be fairly new.
