Solex carb air filter

I have a type 4 engine in my crossover. When I bought it she had a single progressive carb fitted and although this is brand new and has given me no problems I wanted to change out for twin solex. I found an original set in good condition but did not get any of the air filter assembly or vacuum hoses. Question is can I fit individual filters and just link the two carbs with various vacuum hoses or is there something in the original set up that will make it run bad without the full original assembly fitted?
