Somethings not quite right with my Westy...

I was just having a look at 71Westy's van when I noticed the electrical point at the side of the van

Compare this with the same shot from my van, mine doesnt have it, now I thought it had been welded up, bu looking at it, it doesnt look like it has ever been there.

but if you look at my buddy seat, it has the electrics, also the side panel has a cutout for the electrics

I guess the buddy seat chuld have been changed at somepoint.

My question is did all westys have an electrical outlet on the side of the van ?

I have a 70, so my outlet is in the same place as the 71 in the 1st picture, yours has the electrics in the buddy seat, so is a 68/69 spec IIRC, as you dont have the inlet on the outside of the van, maybe this has been welded over, i'm sure it should be there, but in a different place to to a 70/71

ahh its a bit highter up, I'll have to have a look under the the soundproofing, i cant rmember seing any thing though.

I looked at the photos of 71westy this week, I did think the socket looked low and not like the one fitted to mine.

See photo, sorry havent got one with the panel removed, but it does look to be in the next bit up.

I think mine's in the standard place for a 71.

By the way, I have sawn it off and made a covering plate, so that it will fit behind my new cards when they come back from the upholsterers. I can hear sharp intakes of breath, but it is the only bit I have modded from standard, so all could be put back if needed.....

yes, good point about the year, mines a 69, same as Faux. So yhey must have moved the socket up in later years

I had a look at mine earlier, it has been welded over, its in the next section up, so problem solved not as dodgy as I thought.
