We're planning on driving down through France from LeHavre and in to the Basque country to Bilbao this summer.

So, here's my request - are there any campsites you could recommend between Normandy and Bilbao which would do for a couple of nights stop over on the way down?

Thanks :)

For a good campsite not far from Le Harve and Honfleur as a start point try this one,

A good one on the Spanish coast not to far from Bilbao and near some great beaches and good surfing is in Mundaka,

Loads of sites around Biarritz and St Jean de Luz.

Enjoy your trip.

Cheers Rob :D

Your spoilt for choice of campsites in France. When you feel like it start looking out for signs. if you find one you dont like just move on to the next. :)

Cheers guys! We're staying the first couple of nights in Le Brevedent ... again - we even ask for a particular pitch we've been there that often now!

Hit the coast on the way down and stop off at La Rochelle, Arrcachon, or the Siegnosse, Capreton, Hosseger region. Loads of camping around there. :)

Slight change of plan - we've decided to bite the bullet and het the ferry straight down to Bilbao <gulp>

Anyway, if anybody's been down that way and would reccommend any cities/areas that we should definitley visit please give a shout.

We're planning on visiting Bilbao, Donostia and Pamplona for definite

We love San Sebastian and Biarritz. Both easy to get to from there. Are you doing a return sail or driving back?

We're going to do a return sail ... the kids' repsonse to a drive back was "Oh, not France ... again!" - ungrateful buggers!!

Been looking at camping Sopelana as our first base, but after that we've not booked anything yet!

When we did the return sailing to/from Bilbao we stopped first in San Sebastian, then went onto the St John de Luz,Biarritz and Bidart area, then to the Capreton,Seignosse and Hossegar area and then up to Arccachon where the massive sand dune is. The Seignosse - Arrcachon bit was the only real 'drive' and still was only half a day cross country or a couple of hours coming back on the Autoroute.

We're back! In the end we stayed in the one campsite for the whole two weeks, using it as our base to explore the Basque Country.
The campsite in Sopelana is literally 5 mins walk from two or three great beaches and is a 10 minute walk from Sopelana metro station from where you can catch the Metro into Bilbao.

I'll post some pics up when I have found some decent ones!

Finally sorted out our pics, I've started a thread in the Gallery sub forum if anybody's interested:
