Im in the process of swapping my ignition...

started taking the steering column apart and i have to twist the housing part up the pole and now its stuck at the top area. only need to twist it another 2 inches and she'll be off.

is there a better way to do this?

the outer steering column pole that the housing is on has come unattached from the floor area and i carnt grip that tight and the housing and do the twist and shake to get it off.

Teas ready and Ive gave up for the night.......

Evening.

I assume youve removed the indicator stalk and steering wheel and trying to get it of the ignition housing off the top?

If so, you wont be able to get it off the top, you have to slide it down to the bottom and off that way.
The top 2 ish inches of the column tapers outwards a few mm making it impossible.
To get it off you need to have it removed from the vehicle with the wheel and indi stalk removed aswell.
When its out and just a column and housing stand it on the floor and look straight down from above.
If you look at where the top of the housing where its in contact with the column you should see a circlip holding a metal washer inplace.
Remove the circlip and lift out the washer.
Spray a load of wd40 in there then push it of the column.
A rubber donut should be left behind.

Hope this helps.

Cheers Rich, Thats just the advice I need.

Yes the indicator stalk and wheel was off and I was trying to slide it up and off. I did take the circlip and washer out thing it might help.

Looks like ill be sliding down the pole tomorrow.

my only problem then is, All the indicator wires that go through the housing, I'll need to remove those to slide the housing/pole off the actual steering column thats inside the pole.

Any ideas on that? don't really want to be cutting and soldering them back up, or is that the only way?

Cheers

They (the wires) connect via spade connectors to a multiblock behind the clocks. Undo the 4 screws and pull he heater levers out and pull your dash clocks towards you.
Will have to put your hand up the back of the dash also and disconnect the speedo cable.
Follow the wires from the switch to their ends behind the clocks.
Mark every wire you pull out so they go back the same way.
Then pull the lot out throught that tiny hole  .
It will work and is way better (and I bet quicker) than cutting and soldering.
