Replaced the complete o/s upper torsion arm already fitted with a new ball joint this morning at work, not a bad job as it goes. No question the old joint had play in it up and down, and the rubber had disintergated so needed changing.
So let it back on its feet feeling pleased with myself and then headed off home. Still knocking coming from the o/s :( :?
Its rather stumped me this. I think now having an assistant rock the wheel in and out from the top it might be the steering link at the spindle end. I can feel something when I hold it.

Is there anything else I should be looking for?

Bearings in the beam?? My sisters bug has been knocking and when we looked the lower arm was rocking up and down. Also it could be the shock rubbers.

wont be the shocks as they are new, and I hope its not bearings in beam  I'm pretty sure its not rocking in the top arm so will check the bottom. I'll try to have a look tomorrow and see if I can pinpoint it. Whatever it is I need to get it done as quick as possible.

Hi!

I have some play in my steering bush pin, the one in the middle of the beam, this makes my steering clonk a little, also you could re-grease the beam, this quietened down some of my other clonks and noises......

Cheers!

Alistair

Its not the pin as it is not transmitted through the steering. It is deffo coming from the wheel tub somewhere. It seems worse when going over a slightly rougher road surface and its a proper clonk. I need to get a long bar in and lever everything. I'm even going to re check the top ball joint as Im becoming paranoid about whether its seated properly and done up as it should be

I had similar knocking and found it to be the top bolt on the shocker just needed nipping up .I had previously replaced all the shocks and was sure that I had tightened them all.Worth a quick look.

Thanks Chrisby, I will check that as well, you never know it might be loose. I first thought it was a shock mount but then discovered the top joint was worn so was convinced it was that. I'll get there ;)

Well done that man! :D Cheers Chrisby ;)

now either the top ball joint has helped it work loose or, cr*p workmanship by me
But all sorted now and getting used to driving again with no rattling ;)
