Tappets???

I've had a running problem for a while and touch wood I think I'm down to the bottom of it and think its only my tappets that need adjusting can any of u confirm this it's running without popin and bagin but it sounds like its tapping so I'm
Thinkin it's needing the tappets rejusting
Does this sound rite and can some 1 give me a quick run down of how to do it??
