testing clock

i won a clock on ebay and would like to test it seller assures me it does work fine. i cant get to my bus at present and was wondering if there is a test i can do i have a battery and multimeter if this is any use.i have to ask as i have no electrical knowledge and dont want to damage it!!!!

have the seller hook up a wire to the power side of the clock and then hook the other side of the wire to a 12v battery pos side. the second hand should start to move
