Where did you get the HX's from? and are they from a bay or a bug?

I got them from machine 7, they fit all type 1 engines, so bug or a bay 8)

Will they need adapting to suit a bay as thought bug and bay HX's were different when it came to where the cables attach?

Really impressed with your arch tubs, they look awesome and haven't altered your seats.

Repros have both levers, you can see in the pics the bus levers that point up on one side and the bug levers that point down on the other.

Cheers dood! correctamundo! both sorts of levers in place, but this doesnt matter to me as I always have mine on constantly and wire them open  I have done this for years as I always drive with the window open anyway 8)

Some of the Parts have arrived  so i will get cracking asap, ive got the paint, went for a high temp stove paint thats got a rust inhibitor in it aswell. Some black exhaust wrap and some panel wipes, just need the stainless ties and im set.

Thanks dood, ive not seen any other buses with this, but its such a sound idea and works! 8)

Right so i started the exchangers 8)

First of all i got the wire wool out and gave the whole things a going over to create a good surface for the paint.

HeatExchangersWork001.jpg

This was then wiped all over with panel wipes, to get rid of any dust and oils that may effect the paint. Im sure that this prep is the most important if you want the exchangers to live for more than a few years ;) No pic of this as its boring!

Next up I got out a nice trusty cardboard box and gave it a hoover out to remove any dust or crap that may mingle in with the paint. I use a cardboard box as my spray booth as I am spraying indoors (well ventilated!) where it is nice and warm aswell. Also I find that if you do it all in a box it prevents any over sparay onto something else and also gives a great finish on whatever your spraying because of the mist of paint settles nicely on the metal once the box is shut. 8) This is probably overkill on heat exchangers but hey :D

So spraying begins! 2 costs of very high temp stove paint and a day between each coat, no need for a rub down between as i dont wat show winning heat exchangers  and these are gonna be wrapped any way.

Thats it for the mo, im just leaving them next to a radiator for a few days to harden up totally before i get wrapping! Update in a couple of days ;)

Great job so far 8)

I think for completeness, you should video the boring bits and upload to YouTube

That would send even the most hardened earlybayer to snoozeville!

New bits arriving for the bus!

New anodised Heater controls from MCJ - seriously good build quality and finish!

Spring plates from our Ted @ Slamwerks - again such good build quality, will be going on in the next few weeks.

Got a service & MOT to sort on the bus, plus a new jacking point is needed, its only really a small hole but the whole thing is gonna be replaced :D

wrap up well dude when you're wrapping the exhaust. that wrap will have you itching like a mofo. and to top it off the balck stuff will send your hands grey with all the graphite

i had a right load of bother when i wrapped my golf four branch in it.

disposable overals and rubbers gloves :D

Its okay dood, im wrapping the heat exchangers, but i always use gloves (i have tons of the buggers!) 8)

So, im doing loads of work on the bus at the mo, and aprt of that is a couple of new jacking points and new inner sill by the sliding door. Then a big wax oil and all back together for a paint and seal.

Anyway my bus had belly pans fitted and i have not removed them since I have had the bus (they are welded on). Now i know that everything is okay under them as I have a small removeable hatch where i can check out underneath with a torch and it gives me access to my table base etc. So anyway the belly pans need to come off, a scary time for any bay owner with these fitted and i have seen some horrors and some good, so you never know what yours are gonna be like.

Well thank **** is all i can say!!! everything is mint under there!! it even still has the factory primer!! mass relief for me and shows just how solid my bus is 8) Now welding can crack on and the pans are going straight back on (although i do have new ones ;) )

The proof!

It's great when that initial 'wtf am I going to find' feeling vanishes

Love all the extra attention to detail on this, going to be one hell of a bus ...
