I changed my throttle cable for a EMPI Universal one (yeah I know tell me) in an effort to improve the throttle response. It is slightly better but I am sure there are parts missing from the pedal. Was thinking about changing the return spring on the pedal but cannot actually find one  Comparing what I have to what is in VW Heritage and there certainly seem to be parts missing from mine.

Does anyone have a picture of their pedal taken from underneath. I want to check the linkage really. Cannot find anything about this in the Bentley manual.

Cheers

LHD 70 btw

I can have a look on mine in the morning ? If that helps? I had to add a spring to the underside, on my 73. The 68 has a badge spring in the engine bay holding the linkage on the closed position

Ditto, I added a spring below too and changed most of the linkages (except the main bar/link as i don;t think this is available) and bracket welded to the floor as my pedal was all over the place and a poor response. Is pretty good now.

Have you got any pix of your pedal set up to compare? Maybe it'd be easier to get a diagnosis as to what's missing. Has the spring broken that's attached to the chassis rail end of the long bar?

I had the same problem with my twin carbs. The throttle wouldnt return properly. I am using a csp bellhouse push/pull linkage. I had to instal a piece of metal upright from the bolt that holds the fuel pump on then connected a spring to the top of this and connected the other end of the spring to the linkage. This now works and pulls the throttle off when I take my foot off the pedal.

Had a similar problem and solved it with a stronger return spring on the hex/ carb linkage, all runs pretty sweet now although still a bit of play at the front end. Have a look at the pics of parts on the VW Heritage website, sometimes a good place to look to get an idea of what parts are required and how they combine together ;)

I had this with mine, I'm running (when the van works  ) twin IDF 40's and a CB performance hex-bar linkage. I got some return springs from Eurocarb to go on the Webers and made up my own return spring mechanism at the pedal under the cab floor, Works very well I find. Keeping the throttle cable well lubricated will aid the situation too.

Cool, I'll get the return springs but I will really need to rebuild my pedal, quite a bit of play there.

A new hinge wouldn't be a waste of money tbh  I'll take a photo of my return set-up under the floor for you :)

Just a thought but it might also be worth checking the cable hasn't been pulled too tightly into the throttle linkage to try to get maximum throttle opening for full pedal - I had this a while ago, even with the cable lug and the carb arms on their maximum travel settings, I still couldn't quite get 100%. As a result of pulling the cable through as hard as possible, the tension on the cable wouldn't let the throttles close properly.

Just a thought.
