Trying to sell my MG over a few classic car web sitesm after the first few hours i get a phne call from what sounds like an genuine older person, but he is 400 miles away. Wanted some more details and photos.
I thinks no probs,as we do travel the distance to find the right camper van. He only gives me a mobile no to ring back. Hangs up so i do 1471 to get the no. he has just rung me from.

Move the van, to get the mg out of the garage take photos send e mail and ring him back to say that they have gone.
He answers the phone ***** classics.
I will only be prepared to pay 1/3 of what you want.
Why did'nt he tell me he was a dealer in the first place, i would'nt have wasted my time.

Then there is the e mail from Italy, i am interested in your car. :x :x

So thank you MR classic car dealer from Brighton for wasting my morning and getting me all excited (havnt had that feeling for a while now.

I think this is going to be the first of many.

Hey Scott if you wnt a fun car to run around in still would consider a PX for a few items that are in the containers that are on their way over doors, sliding doors, tailgate, new body etc etc. ;)

yep ,im guessing it will be the first of many,my bug chassis has sold 5 times now,yet i still have it :?  bunch a tits.im loosing my second garage soon so could really do with getting rid,but im not giving it away, like your situation i keep geting silly offers,im lucky that i dont need it gone for the money, just because i dont need it anymore and i want the space back, think it will get moved to work in a week or so and il store it untill i get the urge for another bug.

good luck with the sale,is it for sale on here??

nothing worse than time wasters

Strongy, if i had the cash I would have that chassis off you in an instant, i have a LHD bug in my garage just crying out for it, not that the one on there is that bad, I just love the thought of it being sat on a mint pan, if you want to dedicate it to a good cause you are more han welcome ;)

I had the same thing on here with my Westy. I took loads of pictures, bought a brand new stock exhaust, fixed loads of little annoying bits, painted floors etc.

I agreed a bargain price of £9700 before the interior was fitted. Matey came from Nottingham, with hire car & cash to collect it. He looked in, around, under & inside out. Drove it, checked all the lights etc.

Then changes his mind. "I just don't trust owning an old car" Jumps in the hire car & off.

Done me a favour to be honest as that was too cheap. The van is worth more & has developed into something nice. I did have an ultra rare twin sliding door splitty windowed van lined up that I missed out on.

I guess on the plus side, I don't have to drive a split!

Sat here now waiting for someone to turn up and have alook at it, told me 2-4 now 3.30 reckon he wont turn up. Why dont people have the sense to ring up and say i am not comming.
I should be working now, just means i will have to do extra hours over the weekend.

OH i hate selling cars, much prefer to trade in and loose a few quid and have done with it.

I make sure I get their numer, then ring them at the stater time to check if they are on the way.

I sell a lot of stuff, and it's usually me that doesn't get back to the buyers in time! I drive around 1000 miles every week picking up buses, parts, and also Land Rovers and Land ROver parts so it's hard to get back to people in a timely manner. Terrible for business, but I'm a one man show. That said, when I'm buying something I am usually up front and pretty communicative especially on a big ticket item. Buyers don't usually have an excuse for not calling. The one that REALLY burned my ass was a guy called Gabe emailed and asked for an entire near side of a crossover Westy (LHD) and I was going to sacrifice an original paint white 72 Westy with some rot in the rear right corner and inner front wheel arches so he could fix his beloved bay. I took several pictures from all angles, he asked for more of one area, and then again, and again...I started to get the idea he might be stalling waiting for some insurance cash or something and then he disappeared. No more contact. I wasted a good couple of hours with the emails, downloading pics from the camera, etc. Those hours are gone forever, robbed by some timewasting bastard named Gabe. Now for the confession; I missed a pair of much needed NOS upper side panels right here on Earlybay as I was waiting for my Paypal balance to go positive again and I completely forgot to get back to the seller. If you're out there reading this, formal apologies from the messer with the 71 panel van!

Will be doing that in the future, yesterdays A**hole didnt even turn up, not even a phone call to say sorry.
Means now i have got to go to work today to do what i should have done yesterday.

if there is one thing that gets me more than ****** buyers, its the companies who keep an eye on the autotrader and if you car is in two weeks in a row they ring you claiming that they will sell your car in a week and if not they will advertise it nationally from then on for free until it sells. i had this when i was selling my bug. £69 they took off me claiming i had entered into a verbel agreement over they phone when all they asked me is did i think it sounded like a good idea, when i said yes they got heavy claiming id entered into the contract. needless to say it didnt turn up any buyers and i was £69 down. i was young at the time and obviously wouldnt fall for any of that kind of sh#t again.

saying that i have just waited all morning for a bloke to come and pick some tyres up that i sold on ebay. amazingly enough its another no show

I know where your coming from, ive had the same ******* concerning my Sunbeam Alpine
Why cant someone just ask questions without pretending they will come and see it, I would rather they showed some honesty and say thats not the car for them
And as for the old dealer trick of saying they are coming to see it and then telling you at the last moment somethings come up but they would be prepared to offer you a pitance without seeing it, quality.
Personally I would rather swap mine for a double cab (early or late ;) ) or a paint job or something, rather than leaving it gathering dust, straight sales these days are hard work.

Im optomistic that someone out there wants a good honest british sports car ( yours or mine) and its worth hanging in there, try the MG club sites and look out for local classic car shows and avoid ebay.

What ever happens I wish you luck with the sale.

Yup - I am trying to sell my mother in laws Toyota for £200. People have bid and won twice who live hundreds of miles away and then not paid - I dont know what people are thinking but I have the address of the one!!
