Hopefully someone can help me out? I have recently removed my engine and having looked at the tinware it is obviously not correct I have looked at JK and VW Heritage I cannot work out what part I need to order. You will see from the photos that the previous owner has made it fit by riveting on additional sections so I would rather bin this and fit the correct part. Also the tinware has a vent which from what I can work out is for an external oil cooler ( I could be wrong) which it does not have and I am concerned that this air escaping could effect the cooling. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Sorted the pics out for you mate :D

Looks like they have converted a beetle front tin to fit a bay. This piece of tin is difficult to get hold of. My bus has a converted single port tin with a hole cut in it for the dog house vent. The vent is the oil cooler exit, to allow the heat to exit away from the engine.

Thanks Stu, 1st attempt at posting pictures. Not to hijack the thread but how did you do that?

Thanks Cali_bay I assumed it was something like that. I will just have to keep looking for the correct part but at least I know the vent should be there. Thanks

If you go to the pics stored on photobucket that you posted links to first and look on the right hand side for the IMG code - copy and paste that directly here and they will appear!

I always check first using the preview button!

picked up a single port one (no outlet) for £45 - the belgian (?) guys in teh second hand hall at dubfreeze had at least one twin port one under the table but I didnt dare ask how much it was

:)

Search ebay for early bay tinware and there is someone (an earlybay forum member) selling them for £50 ready powder coated.

Its a 71 only front tin for dog house coolers when they switched to twin port. You obviously have a twin port engine fitted.

I paid £50 for mine in poor condition and had to get it powder coated.

You can also buy the piece to convert a beetle front tin by welding a piece on from another earlybay forum member for £25 - £30.

The main thing is it seals the engine bay otherwise you'll be sucking warm air from the oil cooler back into the cooling fan. If you aren't worried about the look, keep yours.

Cheers

just removed all my tin to paint 71 bus with a twin port. This is all the tinware from the top half minus the dog house:
