I'm off to live in France soon and had planned to take my van with me but now I've heard some iffy news. Apparently French insurers won't touch UK registered vehicles despite EU rules etc. This means I'd have to insure in the UK which means coming back for an MOT every year- not a quick trip from Toulouse.

I'm wondering if I should sell and then buy a lefthooker over there (or possibly import one). I reckon I'd get an OK price for my van (1972 Danbury, pretty original and decent condition) and lhd s seem to be a bit cheaper. But I wouldn't even be thinking about selling if it wasn't for the move to France as I love my van...

hard to decide so any advice, comments etc would be welcome!

if you love your van keep it! dont know a bean about registering laws, but cant you register it in france? surely its only like importing a van.

they will insure uk vehicles but its hard work finding someone, as steve has said its an easy process to register it in france...

as a side note if you are overseas with a uk registered van it still requires an MOT every year no matter who insures you....

plus if im not mistaken you have to register it in that country if its goes beyond a certain time and is deemed domiciled in that country....

 Sounds like good news to me - if I can register it easily that sounds good. I'll just go on a green card and then sort it out once I'm there.
