Im sure this has been covered many times before but thought I would try and get a current opinion.

I am planning on getting the van up in the air in a couple of weeks so I can get underneath it and wire brush everywhere to give it a clean off. Once I have given it all a clean and a look over I don't know what is the best way to protect it?, ive read that I should use Waxoyl or hammerite or old engine oil :shock: :shock: etc etc.
I wanted to use something black but ideally wanted a neat finish and then possibly go over that with waxoyl ( as it is clear I think ).

Anyone already done something like this that could give me any advice?

Many thanks.

If your wanting to paint the underneath ignore me, if not then .....

People will think im on commission but

Apply this everywhere and all chassis/box sections/cills

(Cavity wax)

with this (cheap ones off ebay are fine)

Let it set for a couple of days, then apply this over it (not in box sections/cavities)

DINITROL4941.jpg

Followed this guys guide (his spitfire)

http://triumphspitfire.rickbaines.com/using-dinitrol-3125-and-4941/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Borrow/buy or steal a compressor, the spray cans work but you need tons, a van can be done with 3 cans of Cavity wax and 3 4941's

Waxoyl is ok but pain to apply if its cold. Plus their sprayers always break, underseal just cracks.

I used to use waxoyl religiously but tbh its crap compared to Dinitrol, waxoyl attracts all the dirt etc and makes everything a mess, 4941 covers the cavity wax so you get both protecting but without the mess. (Well box sections might drip a bit)

This stuff works under 10 degrees fine (don't need to with the cavity wax but keep the 4941 in bucket of hot water before use)

I did mine last month at 5 degrees outside on the drive, worked fine and got a very nice OEM finish when set.

Nice and hard wearing, don't forget to cover your discs/drums with a sheet.

What I did was paint everywhere I possibly could with
http://www.anti-slip-paint.co.uk/m/prod_listing.php?cPath=23#/m/prod_detail.php?cPath=23&products_id=116" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And have then gone over that with waxoyl/ankor wax on the underside, and 3M schutz on the wheel arches.

Sils and box sections I recoated 2 days ago, with Bilt Hamber Dynax S-50, because I hadn't done a very good job with the waxoyl 2 years ago.

Wouldn't use any old engine oil with waxoyl, it may sound like a rust preventative.. But not only is it really messy, it will react with any plastic, rubber or sealant you may have in the areas its applied.

Wipe it off with white spirit, panel wipe or similar solvent.

This also applies to new cars as well (didn't park my new 65 reg abarth far enough away on a windy day :oops: )

We stone chipped underneath then used black underseal over the top of that. The beam, arms etc were powder coated black also. Gonna waxoyl it to death too! It being a RHD had to have most of the bottom 200mm replaced and also the floor pans. So a bit paranoid and taking no chances :msn4:

Last time I treated my underside it was a case of a good clean, a tasteful bit of manscaping and a fresh pair of pants.

That's what you were asking, right?
