I've got some birthday cash left over and wondered what my options for twin carbs would be?
It's a 1600TP - makes, models, recommendations, what fits and what doesn't etc all welcome...

;)

I have kadrons on my bus (1600tp) and the other half has them on her bug (1776tp) both run super....

....lot cheaper than more fashionable names......

think on SSVC there is a set forsale......paid £150 for mine

I paid £150 for my Weber 40 idf's. But i got stung with the cost of jets  and getting a couple of rebuild kits, they were ok to start but i thought it would be worth it in the long run

Thats a good price for Webers, and their genuine italian carbs not spainish

Thanks guys - what size do I need to go for? 36, 38?

;)

As far as Webers go, i'd suggest 34 ICT's, 36 IDF's or 40 IDF's for a 1600tp. Off the top of my head for my 40's i've got 28mm vent's, 115 main jets and 45 idle jets which makes my motor run sweet :D but every engine is different, i found it to be trial and error when it came to the jets etc

Saying that 36 IDF's are not a common find these days :?

I got 36IDF's on mine found them on ebay under alfa not vw, think I paid £60 for the pair, but then you have to get manifolds and linkage and have to pay vw prices for those, but is a cheaper option than the 40IDF route and 36's are big enough for a 1600.

Personally I'd go for Dell'ortos. I have Dell'orto 34 FRDs on my 1641 and they have been superb. 32mpg is my average fuel consumption on a run and I can breeze up large hills at 60mph. In fact today I was going up hill at 84 mph in a loaded Bay, although I doubt I was doing 32 mpg at that speed.:D

In a bus, I only have experience of Dellorto DRLA 36's - but my experience says they 'rock'.

:)

Kadrons .. but not fitted them yet .. so can't say ..

.. although i was offered them for £100 unused with manifolds and linkage so had to really ..

.. supposed to be good for the cheaper option .. ( just make sure they're the Bocar ones?)

Hilly

Although i got mine from a geezer who was running them on a karmann ghia, i think he said they came off an old Ferrari Dino 246??? Dunno if thats true, but the van goes like hell, sounds really meaty and runs great, expect from when its stone cold or if theres really cold weather, they have no chokes :( so it's a 'rough' until its up to temp
