Firstly I have been given a FlameThrower coil and although I understand it is a straight swap for my current coil, the instructions suggest I need to check if I have a resistor in place :?: ... Can anyone tell me firstly if my van would have one (UK RHD 1972 Dormobile, Type 1 1600 VEGE engine), if it has or if no-one knows where should I look to locate it?

Secondly is in regards to my leisure battery set-up. My stereo runs off the leisure circuit which is a 85amp/hr deep cycle battery with split charge system running through a domestic fuse box to the stereo (also controls power inverter and interior lights) However, when I start the engine it always trips the fuse from the leisure battery - the main fuse not just the stereo circuit... Can anyone suggest why, or what I should check to stop this happening? :?

Third question, I know I said two but while I'm at it  whenever I put the van in reverse gear the ignition fuse (2nd from left as I remember 16A) blows. This orginally happened when I put the n/s reverse bulb in which I subsequently removed but now it happens all the time, do I just need to check connections around the bulb, bulb housing? Or should I check elsewhere? And why is it the ignition fuse that blows? I say its the ignition fuse as when it blows I have nothing on a turn of the key - gen & oil lights don't come on, fuel guage doesn't spring up...

Your help as always much appreciated

Q1. As I understand it you have no ballast resistor in your coil or5 elsewhere.

Q2. If the leisure battery is flat then it will take out the fuse as the charge current is to great at start up. Try charging the leisure battery for about 3 days from an external source and then try again. As leisure battery has totally different cahrge/discharge characteristics to a staring battery.

Q3. Check the wiring of your reverse lights and coil. Normally the reverse lights are fed from your coil in the engine bay via a separate fuse, also in the engine bay. Normally the ignition is not fused, so which fuse blows?

Hmm, Q1 8)

Q2 I know what you mean but this is a different issue - already had that one. The leisure battery is not flat and is charging fine from the split charge. There is a spade fuse (Yellow 20A?) as part of the split charge system which blows when the leisure battery is flat. The fuse that trips is the domestic fuse but only when the van is starting, once the engine is running I can re-trip the fuse and have the stereo on, when the engine is turned off I can still use the stereo, it is only when starting the engine the fuse trips! I guess I need to have a look at what rating is on the fuse, but should a surge in the current occur when starting the van?

Q3 I will follow the wiring around, tho the coil has not been touched and is a recently occuring fault so I would hope the wiring isn't incorrect...? The fuse that blows when put into reverse gear is a pink 16A continental fuse on the fuse panel below the dashboard, I think it is the second in from the left, and when it blows nothing happens when I turn the key - not lights, sounds or action...
