Met some of their guys at a show last year - all seemed very nice me!

I think the best thing to do with any club is meet some of the members and find out what sort of things they get up to (the Rusty Bay Owners Club are very family orientated for example - whereas many clubs are more 'late nights and who's got the loudest stereo?'). Some clubs frown on heavily modified VW's, while some prefer them...

If you find some likeminded people out there then sign up and enjoy!

;)

Ive never heard a thing about it to entice me to join Im afraid. A guy I knew got onto the committe once and tried to promote more 'scene' involvement, but they were having none of it. He got booted off in the end.
Id love there to be a Bay equivelant of the SSVC but there just isnt, madness really. I was a guest at the weekend at the SSVC AGM camp, and it was great , they strike the right balance between enthusiasm/knowledge/seriousness and friendliness/social mix etc .... does all that make sense?

How hard would it be - perhaps using this forum if earlybay don't mind - to set up our own EB club with all the usual bits but more..........

SK seems to have alot of time on his hands so we could set him up as president of the club (biscuits included)

I'm a member of both the SSVC and the T2OC, having recently been lucky enough to own both a split and a bay.....

The SSVC for me is a more 'modern' club, and their magazine is excellent, it strikes just the right balance between family/hardcore/stock enthusiasts, and has some great articles.

The T2OC mag on the other hand often reminds me of a local church hall magazine, (can be a bit dull...) but that said they too are very family focused, if that is what you are looking for.

It would be fair to say that the T2OC committee are perhaps a little more 'staid' than their SSVC counterparts...If I'm honest the only reason I joined was to get a insurance valuation for my bay, however this turned out to be about 10 times more complicated than for a SSVC valuation so in the end I didn't bother......

How about a club for the early bays.....? :D :D :D

This earlybay thing seems to be working as a loose fellowship, meeting people at Stansted and Stanford Hall who are simply into their vans - and in turn your van - makes me feel part of a group when I wouldn't be so keen on being part of a club.

Committees are all well and good but the rows I've been involved in at our local football club leaves me feeling like good old Groucho - not wanting to be in a club who'd have me as a member.

Yes!
This debate came up a while ago and I think the general feeling was that if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
I like things as they are, please don't make things all official and formalise everything.
Like Mike F, I make it a point never to join a club that would have me as a member!

;)

i think a "proper" club like the s.s.v.c would be a fantasic idea, although....it would take hard work and dedication to get anywhere near the split club, but we are definatley in need of a modern, family/fun orenetated club, which holds regular camping meetings and club pitches at shows, i would be willing to do my bit if anyone wanted to get somthing going.............im very organised and bossy   , but i have a great passion for the whole bus thing and what goes with it

come on lets do it.................it will be fun

I'm a member of the Type 2 owners club for insurance purposes and that's about it for me.

I've been a committee member of a small car club (none VW that is) for some 17 years now, being such things as Parts sec. Magazine editor. Insurance valuation officer and Model registrar. We have a great friendly club with no bitching or political fall outs like you hear about in some car clubs. It's just good fun for like minded people to get together and enjoy what they love. So on that note should the EarlyBay.com become a club? Well it all depends on what you want from it e.g. club magazine, proper insurance valuations, recognised club status for application to major shows, funding to purchase banners and regalia for displays etc.
The VW scene is well catered for when it comes to spare parts and some clubs are formed to try and get that mark of vehicle recognition in the hope the manufactures of certain hard to find parts will be remade.

For me at this moment I'd just apply for a stand at certain shows around the country and see how it goes, but if it was to be made into a club, then I don't mind helping out to a degree.

I agree with J+M 'If it 'aint broke don't fix it'
I'm fairly new to the site but it's kinda nice the way it is.
I'm sure some of the friendliness would be quickly lost when we have to start voting in 'club sectretary's'/treasurers etc.

All in my humble opinion of course...

With EarlyBay.com, we already have a club, but we could perhaps organise things (like meets) a bit better by getting someone to do these on
a regular basis instead of everyone for themselves?

Hopefully this will keep the spirit of the site as it is (mental did I hear someone say  ), but make sure that
when we go to meets that we all know where to meet, have an area put aside
for us etc.....................

Or, just forget it and stay as a happy bunch of nutters :D

I have to agree with everyone else here, keep it informal for a while, clubs and committees cause some much grief, I've seen too many friendships ruined by club politics in the past

We have a banner already I believe so we can advertise the forum and website at shows, the lineup at Dubs at the Park at the weekend will be the first "proper" meet I guess, see how it goes and go from there I say

Yep - just to come back to this one, I did run a 'Poll' thread a while ago about having more of an official EB club, but although many voted for it, many comments were wary of it getting bogged down in committees/politics.

I am keen to have some of the benefits of a club (eg. EB forum members can already get 15% discount on insurance for instance ...), maybe with some semi-official meets/camps etc., but definitely without the overheads and petty in-fighting that can sometimes destroy the original idea.

Perhaps going forward it would be good to get some more people involved in organising various events (Ive already had various offers which is great ..)

If people have particular ideas of which things they like about a club then let me know ...

Mike

i think the way things are is great. it would be cool to have the club magazine etc but they are hard work and a lot of cash.

gninnam i wish i had the time to run something but the truth is i have a job that drives me up the wall and earlybay is my little bit of sanity!.
im gonna be back on the road soon so internet in the evenings only im afraid...
ive spent most of my life working on motors so dont mind sharing the knowledge.

i was a member of the SSVC and found it too elitist, this place is a lot more relaxed and informal and im happy with that.
Camp outs and meeting up at shows would be cool but committees and fee's i can do without.
Earlybay, if i can help in anyway you know where im am

just my thoughts

appreciate the offer of help cheers ...

My basic premise is no fees - 'membership' as such will always be free just by joining up on the forum - my aim is to get any funding in via adversiting on the site (will start pushing this more soon ...) - this hopefully will cover things like hosting, banners, flyers, etc..

also by seling stickers, T-shirts, etc... more on this soon ...

just thinking, i was thinking of having a stall at peppercorn.

good place for a meet up and camp out, earlybay possibly have a stall there with flyers n t-shirts n stickers?

Also, I didn't mean this question to end up like this sorry!

Was just thinking of joining the t2oc and seeing what peoples thoughts were.

Early bay' like SK said if you need any help feel free to give me a shout!
