Taking my type4 engine out of early bay 72 and putting in a recon 1600cc what bits do I need to save from old engine ???

Practically nothing is interchangeable.
Keep the type 4 engine, they are far better. I wish my '71 would fit a type 4 engine.
Practically all the type 4 engine bits are worth keeping, someone will make use of them.

Type 4 spares are getting expensive, don't just junk it.
You will need the late bay type1 engine tins to fit it in. Don't be tempted to just put it in without them as you must seal the upper part of the engine (the cool zone) from the lower else face overheating problems and reduced longevity of the engine.
