Universal Crankcase

Quick question- I've got an old universal crankcase lying about. I've never really looked at it as bought it years ago. It appears the head stud case saver on the top left side is recessed into the case and not flush with the surface (its the only one like it as the rest are flush with the case). Is this standard- and any idea why?

Hi, yes, it's supposed to be like that. That insert is deep in the hole to avoid cracking the thin area of the case behind cylinder n. 3.
