Was attempting to free off a seized piston in the front caliper, so i pressed the pedal to find out what piston was free, pumped a little more to get some pressure then tried to clamp the free caliper and wind it back in to put pressure on the other side when..........the caliper housing cracked, brake fluid everywhere.
Does anyone sell the calipers?
What other options do i have?
Any other ideas on what i can do?

found these on Just kampers is it worth it?
LINK NOT WORKING
It look likes the complete kit ancluding calipers, pads, adapters etc or should i just buy the adapters and pads and try and get some standard calipers second hand?

From what I see its a late caliper and pad set with early mounting hard wear, so a costly way of going about it.....

Hang on for the set from D-FENS or get a good sh set of lates...and do it yourself at half the cost

Is there a cheaper way of converting to the later type set up?
Obviously using second hand parts is cheaper but should be easier to come buy.
Was planning ontrying for an MOT this week or next week hence why i was playing with the brakes, hopefully these are the last things to do

The JK set is a bit confusing, the 73 > brakes are larger and to accomodate the steering knuckle and back plates were altered....so not sure how these late calipers are gonna fit.....without fitting the later knuckle and backplate...

Froggy give this guy a call I can pick em up for you if you can arrange pick up for tonight as I drive past Hitchin...He does collection only.....
May ask a favour in return

Cant do anything tonight as i'm going to work in an hour.
Are you looking at the 71' calipers for rebuild only?

Have had a word with the wife and she says buy what i need so might give JustKampers a call tomorrow about there kit and just convert mine.

Might also give Kingfisher Kustoms a call (as there local'ish) to see if they have anything available

Thats the ones, there a bit rough looking but a possible quick fix...

Or he has complete stub axles at a reasonable price for lates and you just need to locate the late calipers...

Obviously D-FENS is the way to go if he still has them....

For what its worth I fitted the caliper swap kit from Just Kampers about 2 months ago. No problem at all. They come with spaces that both alter the bolt size (old caliper are 12mm new are 14mm ) and that also act as spacers for the different disk off-set. Worked a treat and they are certainly beefier then the early calipers, so in my mind you cant go wrong. That said if you still fancy fitting origional calipers let me know as I have 2 (although one is seized....).

i have the full 71 disc set up from the trailing arm, both sides if you need PM me.

Starting to think this is the way forward as it will be easier to get parts in the future.
Still trying to decide whether to get re-furbed second hand calipers (and save some money) or just buy the complete kit.
How long did they take to be delivered as i've never used JustKampers before?
Were they a straight fit or was there a few niggling bits that needed adjusting?

AFAIK you can easily buy both set of pads now for early and late calipers, no difference in price.

can anyone say if the pots are the same on both brakes? so a refurb kit would be the same?

After trying numerous places about calipers i have just ordered the JK conversion kit.
All the places i tried about a new caliper where charging a surcharge and with my caliper being knackered it meant i would have paid close to the price of the JK kit especially as i haven't tried to free the other side so might have same problems.

Will post back when they have arrived and i have fitted them.

Well the conversion kit arrived today so this afternoon i decided i'd fit it.
Well lets just say things didn't go to plan. :(
Trying to remove the copper brake hose from the back of the old caliper i managed to break it in half so now i need a new copper hose
Then when i started on the other side i noticed that for some unknown reason i've only got 1 brake pad fitting kit and the ones fitted to the old calipers are shorter than the new type
So now im no furhter forward than when i started out this morning infact i further back due to having to find the parts i need tomorrow morning. :x

Why cant VW ownership be simple? :?

the cpooer pipe often twists and breaks as its seized in the caliper nut, dont this a few time myself  .
