Hello people

Were is the best place to tap off for the vacuum to my servo, best of two options...
Running on twin 34's

i) T off the carb balance line

Or

ii) Use spare vacuum point on one manifold

any other methods out there....let me know

I came off one of the vacum attachments on one of the inlet manifolds. The bus runs fine this way with no hesitation at junctions. Some people advise fitting a 90 degree angle elbow in the advance pipe to benefit smoother idling, but i have been happy just using a length of pipe, idles well nicely :)
 
Off the manifold, get it drilled and taped should cost you no more than £20 for a engineering shop to do this.
 
I should of explained a bit more, I have four tapped holes two in each manifold....I've fitted a balance line between two of these fittings (the ones facing the front of the van)runs behind the fan housing.

Should i place a 'T' piece in this balance pipe....???

Or should I use up one of the remaining two manifold tappings facing the pulley side of the engine...on just one of the manifolds to feed my brake servo?????

you dont need to balance the servo takeoff, well, rather it would be overkill, one is enough.
 
on dells the manifolds don't have any drillings? so whats 's the best way to get a servo take off?

where would I get the fittings/tap?

[thought I'd post on this thread to attempt to keep similar info in the same place!]

Didn't someone on here drill & tap the manifolds for a servo? will have a look & see if I can find the post.
 
thanks - I have a very leaky engine in the 68...which I'm now thinking of swapping out with the 'long term' engine the 1745, but that's where the servo hookup problem exists.......as it has 36's ably strapped to it.

I think the idea of building up some more metal then tapping would be a good idea.
 
thanks for that..I'm not sure about adding metal. as I'm not sure what the chinese made them from - pure alu? doubtful.

so a std barb then - I was thinking it'd need to be a certain ID to work right? I s'pose I could check size on the std manifold.

would brazing be better?

if you take it off of only 1 carb would it then need the mixture playing with?

when you apply the brakes and it takes air from manifold would this the richen the mixture or is the air taken so small its not worth worrying about?

I made a spacer and tapped this, I wanted to raise the carbs anyway as I didnt like the throttle action that came with the standard kit for Dellortos. One barrel is enough.
