On my home from work, and I got that burning smell!

And it's probably my fault

Very moody arty photo, love that! 8)

Glad you're home alright, hope it's not too horribly bad :?

Cheers for you replies fellas.

Well I pulled out my Sapphire radio yesterday at work while in my break, it has never worked, I was going to give it a check over this weekend.
Left work just before 11pm after a 14hour day and got an electrical burning smell after a mile or so, figured I had buggered something up when I pulled the radio, so pulled over to have a look and found the headlight switch was really hot, probably because the instrument panel lights also fed the radio light and I had disconnected this. So I pulled that feed off the switch presuming it was shorting somewhere.

Then tried to start the bus up, all ignition lights OK, but when I pressed the start button the ignition lights just flashed and it didn't start. Tried it again and everything was DEAD.... no lights, no ignition, just silence. Now not knowing all that much about electrics (and you've guessed that already right  ) I was thinking I had really f*^Ked up, so I called the AA

After a bit of a snooze a very helpful AA guy turned up at 1am, told him everything, and the first thing he did was go and look at the battery...... "but the battery is fine" I said, believing that the problem was to do with my under-dash fumbling, as soon as he had his hand on the battery the lights came on..... a loose connection on the battery terminal  nothing to do with the initial short that made me pull over. Back to basics for Mister Mellor

Drove home all fine :D

Thanks everybody for the nice comments about the photo, it was just taken on my iphone under a street light and uploaded from the kerbside, I didn't even slap it into photoshop as my phones power was running low.
:D

That's brilliant!
At least you can get your head down for a bit when you break down in a camper.
Great photo by the way.
