IF YOU KNOW THIS THAN SORRY, IF NOT YOU NEED TO

I have found out to day that my Debit card got cloned and some ****** has spent over £1500 on my account in one day.

Thankfully the bank appears to have this in hand so i shouldn't get stung, i believe i know where this happened.

However, the whole point of chip & pin (and i didn't realise this but never give it much thought) is that the cashier should NOT need to touch your card so therefore never has the chance to clone it / swipe it without you knowing.

So refuse to let anyone handle your cards, make sure you put your card in the machine and you take it out. This is the whole point

Lets stop these thieving bastards from getting our hard earned cash

anyone who fancies getting medievil on the ass holes that did this let me know

Sorry to hear about this mate :(

I know what you mean about the above. Our local B&Q always take your card & swipe it through the machine (the old way). It always makes me think when they do it :?

So do Tesco, refuse to let them touch it, they will tell you there is no other way to do it, even though there is a keypad with a card slot in front of you. Ask to speak to the manager.

I hates halfords for that they let me put the card in the machine, then when its done they take it out and swipe it on the till and give it you back, how odd is that, never had a problem yet though :D

The whole chip and pin thing is rubbish anyway, big waste of money

OOh bugger sorry to hear that Daz.
The same thing happened to a mate from work. He only ever uses his card for petrol every week, never anything else. One day the bank noticed a slight anomaly in his card usage. They phoned him immediately to ask if he had used his card abroad. After he said no they stopped all transactions.
Turned out his card had been cloned and some scrote had used it in a couple of resturants and a hotel in Dubai of all places  . They got through something silly like 5 grand in 2 days. Luckily because of his usage profile the bank knew it wasn't him and it never cost him a penny. Well that and the fact that they found out that on the same day he bought petrol in Birmingham and about an hour later it was used in Dubai.

See you tonight at t' pub mate

Here's a topic I know a bit about (for a change !).

When the chip is used, it is extremely difficult (I won't say impossible) for your card to be cloned or for dodgy transactions to be done later without the card present (it does seem possible for multiple or incorrect transactions to be performed if the shop has a dodgy chip card reader).

However, most cards still have the mag stripe, which can be cloned and used in transactions if your card supplier allows it (they could refuse the stripe transaction and only allow chip transactions if they wanted to).

And of course, your account can be used on the internet if the account number (on the card), your address (did you sign up for that loyalty card ?) and the CVV digits (on the back of the card) are known to the criminal.

Maybe we'll be back to cash before long - at least a thief can only steal what you're carrying !

I only barter for everything but it's getting more difficult now
as the wifes passed her prime

Cash rules - cards suck

i use my card over the phone to get pizza and curry and stuff like that, when the delivery man comes doesnt even look at the card, some dont ask you to sign. the ones who check my card and ask me to sign get tips, the others dont simple.

A few years ago before chip and pin was thought about over here, my credit card used to have a photo of me lazer etched on the back. Thats much better than a signature or chip and pin, how many uguly mugs are around looking like me

Even all of the shop staff admited that it was a good idea, and thay didnt see it very often
