This is how I have done mine, due to the fact that I have both types of hook up fitted to my van (Original US and UK).

stupid question maybe, but wouldnt you need the lead to be a lot longer???? :?

 Gary

I also have a 20 mter hook up cable with a male and a female end! It just fits between the two or I take off the UK plug end and it will go into the site hook up. Or if I want to use it at home I can use a standard extension lead. Best of both worlds.

It is either that or you have to park very close to the hook up.

I still get lots of mail for these but unfortunatly i sold them all ages ago. Sorry to dissapoint.

no probs - cheers for the reply,

I'm attempting to get this via an RV specialist on the UK - if I have any luck I'll post the details!

Just ordered a couple of US plugs from Frank's Bus Parts for £19 delivered - will post piccies/info once received to see if these are suitable for others!

Will wait with interest to see what you come up with.

So to clarify, the 125V US plug fits the standard fitment in the side of a US import van and then you wire it into the blue 240V style so you can have power inside the van?

That's the plan - in my (rough! I am a qualified sparkie but that was a loooong time ago!) calculations voltage is related to current via W=IxV so if you increase the voltage you decrease the current you can pass through the plug, these are hopefully 125V 15Amp plugs which should then be good for 5-10Amps - I'll certainly be making sure the breaker in the Consumer unit is 6Amps

It's not a simple case of plugging it in and going as I recommend replacing the wiring from the plug to the consumer unit and likewise the wiring to and removing of the US socket and putting in a UK one - the wiring will be old and also rated for 110Volts inside - I'm intending to post details of how this is done and incorporating a leisure system - just collecting bits at the moment (including a bus :D)

if anyone gets hold of some more of these, can they pm me. I really fancy keeping the original septic tank unit as its a lot neater than wires everywhere.

My dad understands elastic trickery, so we should be able to sort something.

Please let me know and I will pay for the plug.

Good find! I fancy having a crack at this myself, the only problem I have is where to put a leisure battery, the usual place on the other side in the engine compartment is taken up by the pump and air tank for my air ride!

This is your MAINS hookup, so you don't need a split charge leisure battery, just plug in at the campsite and use normal appliances in your van.

Yep, I get that, but I figured that if I am going to start looking at sorting electrics out to power an electric fridge / cool box, etc. then it would make sense to do leisure battery electrics at the same time and add a zig unit or similar.

Good point! Is there room where the rear bench seat would be to fit the additional battery?

That's probably my preferred option at the moment, but I'd need to make sure that it was well boxed in somehow so that there is no change of an accidental short as things are chucked under the seat for storage.

Cheers,
Karl
