what are these?

I keep finding these in my rocker covers .. not lots, only bits .. the last twice I checked my valves ..

I asked someone before and they said they were collets and not to worry, as most engines are built without them anyway ..

Im just curious if its a sign of bad things to come or if it will survive?

They are valve stem seals which have got old and hard and broken up.The engine will be ok as some engines dont have them.
