well i've had a late bay for 3 years and now my current early..and i only learnt that the dash lights have a dimmer!!!

what did you find out about your bay this week

where is the dimmer, although i'm not sure i would want mine any dimmer lol

I havent learnt any thing :(

Rotate the headlight switch (on ours anyway!)

This week I learnt that massive slack in the steering may not actually be a steering box nearing the end of its life, but just could be a drag link with a shagged ball joint at each end! New one fitted, and now trying not to steer into thinks with my new, pointy steering!

Oh and another thing - don't bother trying the LED rear tail/stop lights from JK - I just did, and not worth it. Old fashioned bulbs are better, and the difference between 'tail lights' and 'brake lights' is very very hard to spot!

Shame you didn't discover that last week. I have them too :D

bare metalled the old girls backside yesterday and found out it was totally solid, no rust, but someone had reversed into something and had filled the dent with the dreaded white stuff :( , itll still have to be cut out and will need a replacement engine lid.

I found out that by pre loading the torsion bar on my weedeater, its now a smoother ride than it has ever been! really pleased and stoked  8)

:D

i usually sit at least two fat blokes in the back and it preloads my rear torsion bars for a smoother drive

I've learnt that fitting some carpet in the back has transformed the interior, its only a temp measure but so much nicer (and cleaner!)

I've learnt that my budget is too small  and that a lowered van on BRM's causes tyre to arch contact when going round bends  (thinking about getting my stock 15" powder coated and put back on). Going to have to raise the van for the time being.
At least I'll have some suspension travel though.

ive learnt that rebuilding brakes is a bitch

Rebuilding is easy, getting the right parts (for a '71) seems to be a problem.

i`ve learnt that hitchcock rules are playing at vwjamboree and the fabled no earlybays in cornwall will be out en masse...see you there

I've learnt that paying the bit extra for good window seals is well worth it- windscreen leaks sorted and no bother fitting ( thanks to George who knows how!)

I've not even driven mine this month. So I've learnt nothing yet. It's MOTd and taxed, I've just had nowhere to go to

This may sound a bit drastic but have you tried taking a hammer to the lip on the inside of the front wheel arch. I'm running 185-65-15s with BRMs on the front of a lowered '71 (not slammed) and had the very same problem as yourself. After bashing with a rubber mallet the aforementioned inner lip back on itself there were no more loud scraping noises going round corners. The tyre still farts on the inner wheel arch when going over the occasional bump (especially when fully loaded) but it doesn't foul on the outside of the arches like it used to.
