I often read about this but i dont know what it refers to.
I havnt been into VW's for that long you see.
 
end float is the amount of movement your bottom pulley has (or in fact the cam its connected to) you may have a tiny tiny amount (i am sure there is a figure for how much) but if there is a large amount then something may well be up and its a big job to fix! 8)

If your bottom pulley moves around loads then you may have to start thinking about a strip down and engine removal ASAP. :shock:
 
As Easy says.

The way to test for it is to open your engine lid and pull back and forth as hard as you can on the lower pulley.

you should *just* be able to feel movement. More than a tiny bit is a sign of a higher mileage engine but not necessarily a problem.

If you can see movement, then it is too much endfloat!

All the above is assuming you have a T1 engine (the one with the upright cooling / 2 pulleys on the front)
 
cheers for that. I just kept hearing about it and didnt have a clue.
Anyway i have a t4 1800 and its sweeeeeet :D
