Im currently lending a Clarke 130Amp Mig from a friend but looking to get my own as i dont like relying on other people ,nothing against my mate but if i screw his welder up i have to buy him a new one where as if i screw mine up then so be it,
I've had a look on http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/index.php and most people recommend a Clarke machine.
I've got around £200 to spend on a New machine (or even a second hand one if anyone has one for sale(see my WANTED Thread)) but was wandering what people use.
Its mainly for bodywork (on the bay) and possibly some jackig points / chassis plating so really only need someting around 130 Amps.

What do you recommend? and where from?

I've used a few Clarke welders and they're not bad for the money. At the moment I'm using a Sealey 150 Turbo and Argoshield gas - I can't fault it.

I'm using a portamig 181, british built, but not cheap. In your price range another clarke would probably be the best.

There is a forsale section on here mig-welding.co.uk where you might find a good machine for £200

Yeah i've joined the welding forum now so hopefully i'll get something sorted.
I've PM'd weldequip on there to see what he can do for me

Did you purchase this from him? What was the price? service etc?

yes, its about £489 inc postage, 1 year warranty. quality built though, and most importantly a solid and strong wire feed unit.

recently bought a brand new butters 150Amp and argoshield but dad took it back today cos the wire feed wasnt coming out quick enough on maximum. thought i'd stick with a british make for quality lol will let you now what the new one is like

well i had read that butters was a good brand. perhaps you got a lemon...

In the last 12 months my Sealey has packed up twice but my mates clarke 150 is still going strong and has got me outta schtuck many a time!!

I quite rate em tbh( would have got one myself but got the sealey cheap)

I use a Clarke 150TE.

The wire feed has been a bit of a pain occasionally, hence I have this page bookmarked...

Check out posts #1 and #7 in particular.

After reading various threads on http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/index.php i think its got to be a Clarke welder, but not to sure about spending stupid money, more money on welder less money on van :?
Trying to find a happy comprise

I have a Cebora Panther 180

http://www.migtigarc.co.uk/MIG_Welder/mig_welder.html

But it is a bit big to transport etc...

I also have a smaller 150 turbo that I can chuck in the car....

My mate has the most little scruffest welder on this earth , I think its 105 summart ,but he welding is beautiful....A country mile better than mine...

good thing about Butters is the support and parts, they have everthing replaceable on the shelf here in the UK

Update time,

Have been spending a lot of time looking a various Mig welders and also looking around the mig-welding forum, sent weldequip (a trader) a few PM's and having just spoken to him on the phone i have ordered a brand New Clarke 135 TE Turbo for less than machine Mart prices and this also includes delivery! 8)

Let the project re-start :D
Still hoping for a late Spring / Early summer MOT
