Can someone please tell me the standard ET offset of a standard bus wheel.

All aftermarket wheels quote this new ET but what are the originals ???

Cheers

Wow ET39. I didn't know that. No wonder alloys can cause clearance problems - some are ET11

Yea, however i think the ET on a standard wheel isn't 0 and also want to compare wider rim size against the original.

ie a 5.5" wheel with ET25 won't sit 25mm further in than a stock :?

ET 0 and the wheel is centred - equal front and back spacing.
ET 39 and it will sit in 39mm, the mounting face is 39 mm from centre.

so the higher the ET the more the wheel looks tucked in under the arch? or vice-versa?

Yup- Flat4 Fuchs are ET 45 and can be fitted easily even with 20mm adapters,
MWS BRMs are ET 11 and can cause tyre clearance problems on the rear.

Mike, think standard is about ET 35.

Cheers Steve,

Based on the above most aftermarket wheels will stick out more than the standard stock wheel.

I am looking at the idea of changing the wheels but don't want the above or have to fit a narrowed beam.

Compared to a ET35 the wheels listed will change the following.

http://marksink.com/tire_wheel_offset/offset.html

Flat4 BRM ET12
The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 23mm MORE
The outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 23mm

Flat4 Sprint ET14
The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 21mm MORE
The outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 21mm

Radar ET20
The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 15mm MORE
The outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 15mm

Flat4 Slot Mag ET23
The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 12mm MORE
The outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 12mm

Flat4 Fuch 4.5" ET45
The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 4mm LESS
The outside edge of the wheel will RETRACT in towards the body by 16mm

However adapters would be required so would puss back out.

I just wanted to see what wheel would fit the best in to the arch bolting straight on.

Some porsche rims have a big offset. One set of wheels i was going to use were Porsche Design 90's 6-16 52ET using 22mm adapters sat nice in arches. Then Vauxhall Carlton and finnally settled on Audi 200 turbo steels 6-15 39ET and Moon discs.

Can I ask Kempy - what was the conclusion... cause this has confused the hell out of me! I'd like to stick sprintstars on mind but just want to bolt them straight on...am I playing with fire or is that cool according to your figures above? Cheers dude

All wheels fit but some stick out more than others and so you don't get as good tyre clearance compared to a stock wheel.

This depends on how low your ride is and the tyre size you have.

I did the exercise as didn't know what the original wheel size was and wanted to compare and thought I'd post. In an ideal world the further in the wheel the better clearance as it misses the drop in sheet metal around the arch.

Thats why some people fit a narrowed beam as well as creating a tucked in look.

i wanted to fit these:

Flat4 Slot Mag ET23 The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 12mm MORE The outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 12mm

with dropped spindles. By the sound of the ET plus the increased track on the spindles it will be a tight fit on the front... would i need to go narrowed to be safe?

You are ok to bolt straight on, but you will have to consider the tyre size.
Also you need to take in to consideration the weight when you are in the van as it will drop slightly loaded.

The last thing you want is the tyre hitting the body when you go over bumps. As stated I also prefer the wheels to sit in as much like stock.

Some people fit a slightly narrowed beam to allow for the extra offset, and when done the wheels sit similar to the originals.

I too like the slot mags and even more after reading the latest Volksworld.
The panel van looked great and the wheels appeared to tuck in without a narrowed beam as there was no mention of one.

It was this that made me look further as to how various wheels would fit against the originals.

I honestly thought that wheels with an ET23 would sit further in as i never compaired.

I want to create the look of a slighly narrowed beam without fitting one if thats possible. Looking at the offset of the wheels the only way is to fit 4.5" fuch's without the use of adapters.

Johnny,

It would also be slightly more than 12mm as a standard wheel is 5" wide.
I would think that the slot mag with dropped spindles would mean your wheel would sit about 1" further out.

It's not major but not what I'd want
