Hi,

Got myself a modern Sony stereo although the original one is still in place and working i wanted to be able to plug my ipod in and all the crap you get with a modern one!

Anyone got their orig one still in but uses a modern one mounted somewehre else?

Love some pics if thats possible?

i think you might be able to plug your ipod into the old one, some of them have a socket for a aux cable.

i would mount it under the dash using one of those mounting brackets. Ive been searching for a fibreglass stero glovebox insert for a RHD van but have never come across one yet.

i think a few peopl e get some sort of enclosure and but it in the glove box. it is all up to you.

If I was a purist and didnt want a new stereo runing my prid and joy then then i would either hise it as best as i could either under the dash or in the glove box.

Best place for a modern ugly stereo is in a ugly modern car

Just sort yourself an aux pre-amp and link to a power amp, then to the speakers.
That way you can keep the old stereo and have somewhere to plug your iPOD in - house all in the glove box :D

mine is currently under the dash in an aftermarket cradle thinggy-bob.

I have realised it works with a remote control, so its soon going to be relocated behind the passenger seat. Out of the way of theiving eyes. I can plug an ipod into it, but the headunit doesnt charge it. So I use a 2gig usb pen for that job.

Or put it in your luggage, like I did (idea stolen from the late hoodride forum). As my '54 is 6V. And my 15 year old CD player 12V. I made it 'portable' (weighs a ton). For battery I used 17Ah gel 'hobby' battery from local car parts store. It goes for hours with one charghing. Here's a video from test session (5Mb).

i think id go for behind drivers seat(with the front facing towards the walkthru),after you got used to the buttons you could use it without looking at it

In the glove box mate that is what i am gonna do picked up and old one for a tenner the other day to fill the void in my dash , In time will get my ugly modern one in glove box in stealth like fashion 8)

someone already put one in mine with a CD changer in the back.. im going to put an original one in one day (providing they didn't cut my dash hole bigger.. and hide mine.. =)

You could always fit a radio modulator to your original stereo, then you could play your ipod through it.

Hi,

all good ideas, i'd like to see some pictures of anyones who has it either in the glove box or mounted underneath a seat or something?

I like the luggage idea to that looks cool as might have to find some vintage luggage from flee bay or something!

I collect 'Old Skool' ghetto blasters and I tend to use one in the van as apposed to the stereo...it makes a cool refreshing change!
