Hi all you tech fundies. I have a 1972 crossover de luxe bus I am turning into a camper (see cheap and cheerful in gallery). It originally had a 1600 twinport and still has the gearbox but no engine. I also have a type 4 gearbox and drive shafts. Question. Trying to stay original which would be the best choice of engine, 1600, 1800, 2litre? The local bodge is to stick a V6 Ford 3 litre in, like the old Granadas! I want simplicity, no big mods to fit it, and can change carbs for power/consumption if necessary. Another popular mod in South Africa is to fit a single twin choke Weber on the 2 litre. WDYT?

72s came with both 1600 type 1s and 1700 type 4s (US only?) so either style could look stock.

What do you want? originality? more oomph? how much do you want to spend?
I think answering those questions will help you decide what direction to go in.
