Which fuel lines

Thinking of replacing my fuel lines this week, what would people recommend? And where to get them?

Are the braided lines the better option?
 
Halfords stock fuel pipe GSF had to order it in but I couldnt wait as it was falling apart in my fingers....
 
I personally favour the original 5mm black cloth overbraded stuff which can be purchased from most small motor factors . This deals with the heat of the engine bay very well . If you fit rubber hose I.e modern injection hose it splits after a time due to the excessive heat inside the bus engine bay .

As a rule I Keep a very close eye on fuel lines as the can cause disastorus results . I fit new stuff to my own van every year without fail (Just before the show season starts) Whether it needs it or not It costs pennies compared to replacing the Entire van :shock:

Is it a simple job?
Are there any hidden lines that involve you taking off other parts etc?
 
Its a simple job takes minutes better when the tanks empty unless you really need to clean the sleep out of your eyes.....

Gadget the bay shouldnt be getting that hot to cause you any issues....I like the look of the cotton braided but its difficult to detect the condition of the rubber (the DC was a prime case), I just went for the modern black 5.6mm with the filter set up above the gearbox out of harms way.

Need to take the tank out this weekend after an unfortunate running out of fuel incident :oops: the filters black as fook and struggling so think I need to give it a good clean....
 
Im using unbraided at the mo, I like to see the hose itself, Ive have braided weep when ive disturbed it before, but it 'looked' ok ... :?

Steel braided? Not a chance.

Like the Gadge-meister said ... replace every year as a matter of course and use proper fuel pipe clips. :)
 
And buy a decent quality fuel filter.....

Yep, basically what the others have said. I am not bothered about using braided, it is not under any real pressure and un-braided is easier to examine. That said, braided is fitted currently 'cos that's what was in the parts shop. Use proper clips and keep joints out of the engine bay. (note to self; do it, NOW!) Would not use steel braided, if it looks 'bling' then it's likely to be crap. (Obviously not so with proper brake lines) My local parts shop had 'Fram' fuel filters in stock so bought half a dozen to keep me going. Would be wary of JK ones.....
 
IMO.... Use efi injection fuel lines even on carb set ups as it is thicker, can take higher pressures and had dbl inner braiding too!

Edit... Steel hard lines in place of most lengths and short efi rubber hoses...

Why not steel braided Clem? I thought they looked nice :)
