Mine is on the front in a different way 
but it does mean it doesn't touch the van and do any damage
It does 'face backwards' so can't put a cover on it unfortunately, I actually only use the roo bar on long journeys otherwise the spare is on the floor in the back or I just carry a can of tyre gunk.
